CRT projectors are actually pretty cheap now, thanks to advances in digital PJ's putting loads of CRT models available after people like rich home theater owners, boardrooms, and military sims upgrade.

9 inch CRT PJs like the Electrohome Marquee 9500LC and Sony G90 can be found in the hundreds if you wait for one to turn up in your area (the Vidikron in my pic still can cost over $1k because of the awesome case). Not bad considering these originally cost around $50k.

The big issue is shipping, since these weigh ~200 pounds and go by freight (I'm still looking for one, as they simply are not found in upstate NY).

CRT projectors are high res though, so a scaler of some sort (or emulator output from a PC) is needed to upscale classic games if you don't want the largest scanlines in history.

curtpalme.com is the authority on CRT PJ tech, with excellent forums on these beasts.
