Came just to post this. But as long as I'm here, I recently learned the following from Wikipedia:

"[Takashi] Tezuka intended the game's world to have a similar feeling to the American television series Twin Peaks, which, like Link's Awakening, features characters in a small town. He suggested that the characters of Link's Awakening be written as "suspicious types", akin to those in Twin Peaks—a theme which carried over into later Zelda titles."

Was it a good thing in the long run? I wanna say yes.

I think it's a great kids movie, provided that the kid watching it either never heard of Mario Bros and won't have certain expectations, or is smart enough to apprecate it at face value.
