Decent sized sensor and recording resolution to avoid moire in full screen video. My old camera had neither of these, and required the camera be extremely upclose to not end up in moire hell.
Manual control of shutter speed for attempting to sync it up with the video being displayed/refresh to get proper frame to frame capture. Leaving it up to the camera can lead to crazy strobbing if the camera is too sensitive to the screen's refresh, and will make the video unusable.
Manual focus is nice not only for being able to properly get the screen in focus, but also to pull to either side of what would be "perfect focus" to minimize any additional moire.

Just a few things I've found important to be able to control and "lock" when recording with my RX100.

Admittedly, it is a lower end model, an 109xi, but still.

I had been using it as a sync processor for a bit, but recently it's mainly being used to buffer my laptop's input to the Megaview.

Leave it powered on and in use for a while again.

If allowing it to warm up as you did before (while adjusting the geometry) brings the color back to normal again, it could possibly be an issue with caps or bad solder connections.

Whether it's worth it or not all depends on how adventurous and handy you're feeling.
