That would be Aria of Sorrow, and exactly why it's the best of the GBA games. Speaking of AoS, why is Death such a cunt in this game? I have no health potions or food so I may have to backtrack.

So what is it about Symphony of the Night that makes it always considered the best Metroidvania in the series? From what I've played of the GBA and DS entries, they seem to be very similar in design. Is it just that SotN was the innovator and is held up due to that? Is it just that it's the best looking Metroidvania in the series?

I love classic Castlevania games, but I just do not see the appeal of the Metroidvania games. Gorgeous visuals and music, but the gameplay is so dull.
Level design mostly consists of horizontal corridors with no platforming challenge. Combat is very dull, just poke, backstep, poke, backstep, poke backstep (some of the bosses are well designed though) It's just so dull and way to easy.
