Why did the later games remove the NES games and item password system?

Animal Forest on the Gamecube. In virtue of adding a bunch of really cool stuff (like pic related) without actually changing the original core game at all.

Was the other thread deleted? This shit is /vr/, even if the western version came out for a non-retro console.
Anyway, my take in AC is that it isn't really a sim game. I mean yeah generally you could probably describe it as such but I think it has nothing to do with games like The Sims, which is a more proper simulation game.
To me, AC plays like a 2D Zelda game (the original N64/GC one, anyway, I think the later AC games weren't tile-based), except without sword or shield, and without adventure, you're just another character in a peaceful town. Come to think of it, Link's Awakening has an "Animal Village".
In a way it also reminds me of Majora's Mask, due to the schedules and different days thing.
Using the shovel to find secrets, and being able to dig around the whole tile (and then it'll be back to normal once you go back) is also exactly like using the shovel in Link's Awakening.
Of course, there is also fishing.
It really feels like "what if we made a Zelda game, but it was just living in town, not fighting any monster?".
The dialogues can actually be funny and some characters can be real assholes, it reminded me of Earthbound in the way. In fact, I believe Shigesato Itoi once said Animal Crossing could be considered "Mother 4".

Animal Crossing is indeed a port of the N64 game, not even a remake, but an actual port. It does have extras though.
GC version of Animal Crossing could also count as a NES compilation.

Is AC really a "sim" game? I remember I went in blind (admittedly I ignored it back in the day because I thought it was like The Sims), but I played it for the first time a few years ago and was surprised how engaging it is, and not really a sim game, it actually reminded me a lot of 2D Zelda games, especially Link's Awakening (come to think of it, LA has "Animal Village"), the way you move across square parts of the map, using the shovel, fishing, item-trading, it seems like 2D Zelda, just without the combat or dungeons or game ending. It's like you get a chance to be a regular person living in an RPG town.
That said, it surprised me positively and poured many hours into it. Sure it becomes repetitive after a while but there's always different things to do depending on the time of the year, or holidays.

Animal Forest on N64 was a cart game, right?
I'm pretty sure Nintendo didn't bother because the localization for a game like this is rather a lot of work because of the text, and by the time it'd be over, the GC would already be out. I remember seeing K.K. Slide in Smash Melee, and it said something about the game coming out soon.
That said, I'm glad the GC port exists because it added many cool things, including having a great classic NES compilation.

Yes. So is Dojin The Giant and whatever other N64 game that got re-released on Gamecube.

Yes of course it's retro, it was released for a pre-2000 system.
And the Gamecube version could be considered a glorifired NES classics compilation.

We can discuss it as a NES compilation

We actually can, on top of it being basically an enhanced port of a N64 game, it also functions as a NES collection.
