You and still like these games and admit that the next one wasn't as good as the previous one, no shame in that. I've replayed the first half of the series and I'm astounded at how much X4 didn't hold up. I think it's problem was tailoring to a second playstyle instead of focusing just on jump'n'shoot, and it came during the Great 90's Anime Boom and kids were blown away at the cutscenes at the time. Ignore the presentation and as a game it just doesn't have that much meat on it, at least when Capcom switched to those cheap slideshows it was more reresentative of the games.
X5 was boring and X6 was frustrating, and X7 was both boring AND frustrating.
