More like 1980's. Quite a few of the early NES blackbox cartridges like Stack Up, Gyromite and The Wrecking Crew use Famicom PCB's with Famicom to NES cartridge convertors.

If you have an old Gyromite or Stack Up cartridge, there is a chance that it has a Famicom to NES convertor in it that you could remove and use for any Famicom Cartridge.

Lots of Famicom cartridges used epoxy ROMs which were just a bare chip die covered with an epoxy blob because it was cheap. Nearly all manufacturers used them, including Nintendo themselves, but as larger ROMs and mappers became more common, they disappeared from use other than in Namco cartridges. But Nintendo never used epoxy ROMs on NES PCBs other than a few early Gyromite cartridges that had Famicom PCBs with adapters.

Most reproduction carts are going to be chip on board since it's so much cheaper than using EPROMs. No legitimate cartridge made in the 80s/90s uses this method, and it's extremely noticeable as from one look at the board. Unless someone flashed the ROM on an actual NES chipset and replaced it with a different image, which requires a lot more work.

But then I'm only really familiar with famicom repros and not NES, so I might be wrong. NES repros would need a 10NES chip on the board anyway so it's likely I don't know what I'm talking about.
