I found this picture on the internet a while ago and finally got around to see if it's still there a couple of days ago.

It's outside what is now Dell EMF1 in Raheen, near Limerick, Ireland. The building was originally Atari's, I assume built some time in the '80s and I believe they assembled consoles here but there's not much information on the internet about their history there.

There's a few articles online about Atari's operations in Tipperary (about 40 km from Limerick) where they assembled arcade cabinets for many years, but nothing about this place. By 1984 the company had split into Atari Corporation (consumer market) and Atari Games (arcade games), so I assume this was a completely separate operation from the Tipp facility by then.

Dell moved into this building around 1991. It's so bizarre that these shattered remains of Atari's glory days are still there over two decades later, somewhat prominently (although flattened) on a mound in front of the building. It's much bigger than what the picture makes it out to be, and the lettering is actually bright brass (except for the missing middle 'A'). I regret not bringing a camera and taking my own pictures.

I'm really surprised it hasn't been stolen, but then again it is probably fuck heavy and what can you do with a load of broken granite?
