Solved the combined sync issue! Although now i'm having another problem.

For people on PC using 15kHz for emulation I've recommended Viletim's Sync Combiner before, but it looks like that was my problem! I removed the 820R resistor and my PVM's found sync again. Removing the diode killed things again, so i left it in. Not wanting to feed a 5.5VDC signal in, i added a 100uF cap in the line after the syncs are combined (+ve toward computer, -ve toward PVM), and that turns it into a 50mVDC level, and things work nicely. A larger cap would probably work, but i managed to fit everything into a VGA plug to keep it neat.

Now i'm trying to install crt_emudriver for Win7 onto a Toshiba Satellite with a Mobility HD 4250... and looking for solutions. Connecting a PVM gets nothing even resembling Sync. The LM1881 stripper circuit does nothing, nor does the above modified cable. I can't tell if crt_emudriver is actually installing or not (i should probably put my multimeter on the line and measure the frequency).

Also can't tell why i can't install XP 32 or 64 on this thing (Satellite L655D-S5093). Trying to install from disc either bluescreens or hangs, depending on the exact XP build.
