besides the comic and maybe brutal doom, where did the idea of doomguy being the "strongest" came from?
because i don't think his power level was even that much of a focus ever besides being just being a touch and one of the strongest uac marines
i feel like a lot of it came from an insecure and somewhat jealous portion of doom fans, that looked at halo, metroid, warhammer and more and feared that they had something done better than doom or something that doom doesn't have
like, any series that may be "more metal" or "more x" made someone go "no, doomguy should be more powerfull than this character and also the most tragic one" etc
the new direction and "lore" of the new games seems to be this way because of this
it's not a matter of attracting audiences of those mentioned pre-established franchises but also making doom compete with those and feel like a "cooler" version
even at the cost of making doom look less unique or a bit more plagiarizing
meanwhile other doom fans just didn't care and played the games
or some like modders actually thought of "expanding the universe" by coming up with something they thought could fit doom, regardless of whether or not was to spite some series that never had any relevant connection to doom
also, this whole thing probably started as a joke too
