X-Com, fuck yeah. Get the original and fix the difficulty bug with Xcomutil before you play OpenXCom, the latter has some problems with crashes that will infuriate you when you're learning.

Thanks, I give it a go and see how hard I smash against the language barrier. I wonder, with all this talk about Japanese games we can barely understand, it'd be nice if somebody put together a copypasta with basic gaming vocabulary, like what HP, Attack, Defence are. I should probably at least learn moonrunes if not actual Japanese so I can write them into a translator, but a general resource would be cool.
