The first problem was a matter of sourcing a new tube, unsurprisingly they're getting scarce. The other problem is that the tube alone is near the $1K mark. Even if the cost was half that, it's still too much when I can barely justify spending $100 on it.

Believe me, I'd loooove to fix it, but it just isn't feasible.
