Yeah they still look terrible despite obviously being modelled on Shibuya's chibi designs but the point of my post was to draw attention to the design choice of using Amano's illustration designs for portraits which are glaringly inconsistent with with sprites, hence Faris is blond despite her sprite having purple hair which is a design choice they made for character sprites to make them more unique and stand out. Another example of this is Terra's green hair in VI which is blond in Amano's illustration (he just isn't up with the anime hair colors). But the FFVI staff at the time had enough foresight to make her hair green in the menu portrait
