I did it recently. There's no complications like with the GBA that has either a 32-line or 40-line whatever connection to the circuit board so you're safe buying any screen for it, but feeding the ribbon cable through the hinge in a nightmare for beginners.

I still haven't started modding this into a, "Game Boy Macro" because I haven't gotten around to buying/borrowing a soldering iron yet, but I have been playing GBA cartridges on the bottom screen in bed.
God this d-pad is the best d-pad ever even if the idiots placed the power button directly above it.

This baby is being hand delivered to my house tomorrow, and I'm gonna get to work to making it into the ultimate GBA player. All I really gotta do after removing the top half is solder one of the speakers to the main board and solder a chip to cancel out the circuit going to the top screen. I'm so excited... it's going to have the PERFECT horizontal form factor, the BEST d-pad ANY device has ever had in the history of video games, and both be able to play physical GBA cartridges and roms via my EZFlash IV I already have. Any GB or GBC titles I wanna play can be converted to .gba files.

And I bought it
I'm gonna see how much effort it would take to install a 3.5 inch IPS screen into the thing, probably give it a new battery, and install new speakers, and it'll be perfect. Not sure if I wanna paint it a different colour or if I wanna just get a replacement shell online for it in the colour I want, might be easier to modify a replacement shell to fit a larger screen.
