In Doom actors are infinitely tall. Different complevels might turn it off. I've never tried to disable it so you'll need to play around with it.

I didn't find Q3 that interesting. Q1 was simply badass, especially for deathmatch. Q2 had an amazing SP campaign, but not as interesting for DM (slower paced). Then there's Doom and Duke3D, the kings of SP, with tons of mapsets and mods, and delightfully easy to map for! I can't really pick a "best" game, because all of those have something unique to offer. I'd say the FPS golden age was from Doom through Quake 2. And there's still a bunch of fine games in there that I have yet to play, like Blood, Redneck Rampage, Marathon series...
