Sadly, 3D Castlevanias didn't live up to the hype, they all are flawed in one way or another. But I think Lament and CV64 are at least worth playing if you're a CV fan.
64 has a good heart but the execution and some of the level design should have been polished more. That said it's way better than what people give it credit for nowadays. At the time it even was received positively, not even mixed. It has some good stuff going for it, the atmosphere was spot on and the controls get less annoying once you get used to the hang mechanic, and the dodging mechanic. It is a very methodic and slow-paced action game though so it does feel like a sort of 3D version of classicvania at times (the platforming-based linear levels), while mixed with more adventure/survival horror-ish levels, which were interesting (fuck the nitro meme, that part isn't even difficult).
Lament is a lot more fun to play because it's more like a DMC clone, but with a whip, so that alone makes it better, the bosses are great (bosses on C64 are pretty fun too), level design is probably what most people don't like about it, it's divided in 5 levels that are like small metroidvania 3D maps, and most of them are copypasted rooms with different formations of enemies and little to no platforming.
IMO both are good games that just didn't live up to the CV hype.

Very interesting attempt at 3D Castlevania.
Not perfect, but I'd rather play this one than Lords of Shadows, and I think it's also more purely Castlevania than the IGA 3D games (even though I have a soft spot for Lament of Innocence)

CV64 was always met with some criticism, but upon release it actually received positive reception. There was definitely no hate, mostly a 7.5 or 8 game.
Much like with DK64, it's in retrospect that it started to get actual hate or harsh criticism.
It's an actually decent 3D adventure/action game and as another anon said actually manages to feel like a classicvania in 3D, although some stages are more adventure-focused or even sort of survival horror-ish, some others are more linear and focused on platforming and action.
Personally, I enjoy it but it took me some time to get used to its controls. Once I learned how to dodge attacks (a sort of subtle mechanic that's never explained, at least not in-game) the game becomes much more manageable and fun. But as anon already said, it is probably a game that, nowadays, can mostly only be enjoyed by fans of Castlevania, or at least people who are very interested in early 3D action games.
One thing I can comment I love about it is the different outcomes in the game depending on what you do, especially the character Lenon, probably one of the most interesting item sales guys in any game I've played. Not just because of his particular appearance, but also because he's a hidden boss.
Dracula's true form and Death battles are bat shit insane, too.
