with higher resolutions, the "scanlines" (really, it's where the scanlines *aren't*) get smaller and smaller. usually they're close to invisible at 1024x768 with 0.26 or greater dot pitch.

pc monitors generally have smaller dot pitch than consumer TVs. TVs generally use slot mask, PC monitors use dot/shadow mask. the higher end models of both will often use aperture grille. also, "dot pitch" isn't the correct term for aperture grilles, but i think the size in mm is comparable.
