At the least if you're replaying them. Any time I went back to replaying the official levels, any difficult encounter got answered with the rockets I'd always save up.
For me, to each their own. A few days ago someone here said that they had fun doing pistol starts strictly on "hey not too rough"; it's whatever floats your boat.
