For your average Joe the core of the controller is the shape. Moreover now even platformers are often played on analogues, only people caring about dpads are us retrofags and an even smaller group - people who play fightans and shmups on pad.

I play on DS4 and I hate it, I constantly press diagonals when I don't mean to. I don't remember having same problems with DS3 or 2. I can't wait for that new Hori Mini wired controller to come out in 2 weeks.
