It is because most Genesis games were short and arcade like, it wouldn't be good to have a save system.

Though there are games that do have saves like the RPG's on the Genesis and there are games that do use the password system like the Road Rash games, Castlevania: Bloodlines, and Zombies Ate my Neighbors.

All I have to say is cum on, step it up.
