We're actually scraping the bottom of the barrel, our standards plummeting, that's why. Just getting better at detecting the ever diminishing drops of value in a barrel of liquid shit. Case in point: >>8600820
This is nothing new either, cf. Sontag's famous "Notes on 'Camp' " (https://monoskop.org/images/5/59/Sontag_Susan_1964_Notes_on_Camp.pdf))

Secrets are not supposed to be easily discovered. The whole point of secrets is that you miss a lot of them. This way, discovering them becomes all the more rewarding. Some games use secrets for replayability purposes, while some use them to create challenge: you're meant to miss or misunderstand them for a while until you apply yourself and figure it out, which is rewarding.
Any other questions, junior?

Wait a second, I looked it up and I was full of shit. For decades I thought that blobbers are turn-based dungeon crawlers on a grid. Apparently, the word actually refers to first-person games with multiple characters sharing the point of view, as it were. My bad. You can all eat a dick, but in this particular case I was wrong and an imbecile. Pic unrelated.

Zelda is a dumbed down Dragon Slayer. Falcom Japanese home computer RPGs were there from the start.

Final Fantasy was directly inspired by Dragon Quest, which was inspired by a plethora of Japanese computer games as well as Ultima and WIzardry. But certainly not King's Bounty.

Resident Evil was miles better than Alone in the Dark. It's like saying, man, why did iPhone get the credit when Sony made tablets before. The answer is, earlier attempts weren't good enough.

No FPS on PC had single-couch four player simultaneous co-op, whichw as GoldenEye's main selling point.

What an absolute total fucking ginoramus you are, dearest OP.

Nigger, "romance languages" are languages descended from Latin (the language of Rome): French, Italian, Portuguese et al. Holy shit I can't stop laughing.

Poor OP wanted to start a comfy pce circlejerk but turns out everyone's played way too much pce these days to buy into its ole hidden gem treasure trove status anymore. Too bad, OP. Bonk's Adventure was alright I guess and some of the choppy-ass shmups had decent bosses. And of course Lords of Thunder is the shit and way above the curve for the platform.

Is there a word for a shmup that is specifically not a danmaku? I.e. a genre name that means specifically Gradius not Progear, Raiden not Donpachi?

Personally, I prefer /vr/'s adequate video game enthusiast atmosphere, for one. I'm not trying to force it on your strangely feminine supportive, friendly, non-competitive et al thing, mind. Of course I'm fine of a bunch of people pick a very easy game everyone's played and play it again, then discuss it, it's just pic related: it's not objectionale, but it sure is questionable.

>>how old are you?
27
>>when was your "golden age of gaming"?
1996-2001, and a renaissance in 2002-2008, when I properly discovered first-party Nintendo games (before that I was a Sega/Sony kid, fav. companies were Square/Capcom/Konami/Treasure).
>>what was your favorite console?
MegaDrive.
>>what were your top-5 games on your favorite console?
Light Crusader, Contra Hard Corps, Sonic 2, Ecco the Dolphin, Mortal Kombat II.
>>what game gives you the deepest feeling of nostalgia?
Final Fantasy VII, hilariously enough.
>>what game did you have the most fun playing with your friends?
Either Ultimate Mortal Kombat III or Twisted Metal 2.
>>what was your top "feel" moment?
I was too old to laugh at Leddit jokes when Leddit appeared.
>>at what moment did you finally realize that gaming just wasn't what it used to be (dat "aha" moment)?
This only happens to dull people.

The western names for the games in thes eries are sort of ridiculous. I could never remember which is Ghouls or Ghosts or what.

Maybe we should start calling the games Makaimura. Even in nip, it's easier to remember and spell corretly than Ghouls'n'Ghosts and w/e.

Makaimura
Daimakaimura
Chomakaimura (SNES)
and Gokumakaimura (PSP).

Pic unrelated.

bsnes for NES/SNES.
(what's the new one again? is it in the repos already?)

gens through WINE for MegaDrive (works flawlessly).

MAME from command line. Have to memorize romnames, but turns out it's ok.

EmuCR-MAMEPlus-r4919 through WINE for third generation Cave shooters. Work flawlessly.

Dolphin (added the repos manually) for GC/Wii. Works jsut as well as in Windows or better.

ePSXe 1.8 through WINE for PSOne. Works flawlessly.

Couldn't be assed to make the PCSX2 run, because it's 32 bit and takes some wild tricks to run on a 64bit system. I just boot into Windows to play PS2 games, sadly.

Neko Project II through WINE for PC98.
