Toshiba sold sets with curved tubes longer than most. Relatively easy to find ones with component video, which is nice. I had a 27" one for a while.
Lots of them are the lower profile tubes that have some more geometry issues, though.

I am not the best at noticing non-extreme lag (most LCD's with filters turned off are fine for me), but you'll notice similar latency to that of an LCD panel. If that's fine with you, then go ahead. Or look for a multiscan model (expensive nowadays).
But yeah; that set in the pic looks pretty handsome. If I had space and didn't have my eyes on a 50" Panasonic 1080p plasma someone I know's going to replace soon I'd probably be looking for one.
As far as HD goes I'd just get a plasma, honestly, if you don't get lucky in the multiscan lottery.
