Although the PSX is way high on the list, and its library is probably the very best library in retro (let's not start THAT argument) the console that I was going to put highest on the list is the Dreamcast.

Dreamcasts are all over the place and though their prices seem to be on the rise you can still find them in the $20 range, often with a decent amount of accessories.

Dreamcast was cracked in such a heinous way that, for nearly all the Dreamcasts you'll find (manufactured before 2002) you can play burned games in them with absolutely no modification whatsoever! Just use decent discs (that's true with everything though) and you can burn the entire library.

The library isn't as extensive as many other retro consoles but what there is is almost entirely outstanding. So many great arcade ports and unique high quality games (unique high quality games being the hallmark of retro gaming)

Another nice thing about Dreamcast is that it doesn't take much to make it look really, really nice on HDTVs as long as your HDTV has a VGA input (and hopefully a 4:3 mode to be picky). I can't really adequately tell you how beautiful Dreamcast games are in 480p and it only takes a $15 cable or $25 box. Not every single game is compatible with it, but there are ways to trick them into running - although there are some glitches and crashes here and there with forced 480p.. Still, if you want a retro system that has progressive scan mode this is the only one - and the library is awesome AND you can buy one on Craigslist, bring it home and be playing downloaded games the same night. Not something that can be said about that many systems, especially systems people sell for $25 that can do progressive scan.

Also, I neglected to mention this but real games for Dreamcast and Playstation are quite fairly priced - though Playstation games are really beginning to creep up, and not just the chase games either. There are some pricey games for Dreamcast too but really that's true for all systems

Alrighty, /vr/

First a little background on myself. I frequent mainly /o/ but have recently gone through some depressing stuff and now all I want to do is nostalgia. Which means, if you couldn't figure this out already, I am a filthy casual when it comes to video games.

Anyways, SO. Picked up a dreamcast 'cause that's the kind of shit I played when I was 12. I got all the typical casual stuff: 3 controllers, 2 non-v mu memory cards, and of course, a couple games. First, i bought Armada. Then I pirated some other stuff. I got Sonic Adventure 2, Crazy Taxi II, Vanishing Point, Racing, Air Force Delta, Jedi Power Battles, Power Stone 2, Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Shuffle, Phantasy Star Online, and my two mistakes: worms world party and gauntlet legends. Forgive me, I didn't know any better.

Anyways, any other good gems? Currently downloading Grandia II. Maybe some cool 3rd party controllers or something? Mods? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
