I'd say there's no "best companion" in PS:T. Every single one is interesting, well-written, is useful and their backstory are one of the best in rpgs. I'm not really a fan of Vhailor, he's just too late in the game, I've never took him with me.
Personally, I like Dak'kon the most, mainly because of his story with TNO and his false Circle of Zerthimon .

I also wandered who that blind archer companion was. Zacharias was his name? There's wasn't much said about him, that's why I'm curious.
