This game came out when I was 12, and I loved it and have always regarded with with extreme reverence. While I recognize now that it probably isn't "The best game in the history of the universe", it is damned amazing, and I finally realized why...

Over the weekend, I played it again for the umpteenth time. Usually take it slow, explore every nook and cranny, do most sidequests, but this time I decided to just make a beeline for Ganon. It was in this mad sprint for victory that I realized how wonderfully crafted this game truly is. If you want to, you can speed through, hopping from dungeon to dungeon, only doing the bare minimum, and this game doesn't hinder you in the least. All of the extra content falls away, and you get a streamlined, straightforward dungeon crawl that constantly keeps you invested. If you decide you want to do everything, talk to every NPC, complete every optional quest, you're rewarded well for your efforts, and you can easily double or triple your play time.

A modern Zelda game would hold you back relentlessly. Try to sprint through them, and unless you know a trick or glitch, you'll be bogged down in mandatory fetch quests, padding and hand-holding. Ocarina of Time mastered the balance of fulfilling different play styles 16 years ago, all while writing the book on 3-D adventure gaming, practically from scratch.

I know this game has its naysayers, but it didn't earn all of its praise for nothing. Every aspect may not be the best it could be, but the game has no real flaws. It kind of is a masterpiece.

Hey guys, new fag to Retro Gaming, and was wondering what site /vr/ uses for their game library on the internet? Would really like feedback. Thanks in advance.

If you throw away the fact that this game was influential, or was really critically acclaimed, or introduced new things into gaming - and just look at the game on its own terms, for what it is - then what is so good about it? I honestly feel to see much of anything about it that is worthwhile. IMO playing through the game is an utterly dull experience.

I honestly want to hear, from people who like it, what they think is good about it, without talking about its influence or impact or even its place in the zelda series.

Does anyone else think its lame that the world record time for this game was done on the ique console, a console that hardly anyone has?

So there was a thread a few days ago about the new world record time in Ocarina of Time. Here's the video of it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3HT0--ieUY

What are your thoughts on it? It is the fastest anyone has ever completed the game, which is really neat. I guess some people have a hard time accepting it, because it was on the iQue, though. Since it's an official release of the game, it's kind of hard for me to argue, I feel.

How does the design for this game work? Are the worlds for child and adult Link totally different? That is, are they completely different versions of Hyrule Field, Kokiri Forest, Gerudo Valley, etc? Or does the game read a flag that you''re either young or adult, and load the area based on that?

Of all the crazy glitches in this game, I've never seen child Link in an adult Link type area; such as child Link in Kokiri with monsters or in Gerudo Valley without the gate.

Is it just me, or does it seem like everyone hates this game now? Feels like probably the most resented game on this site.
