The 5200 was suppose to be a Atari 400 turned into a console. But the 7800, was like an extension of the original VCS/ 2600. It has a updated 6502, and a better video display processor. But still uses the 2600 audio chip. But the audio could be extended through enhancement chips in the cartridges. So this machine is backwards compatible with the 2600, which did extend its library. But again, I have only really read about the games for this machine in Magazines back in the day. I never touched, seen or knew anyone with a 7800.
