I've been playing a lot of VLDC 9 recently.

It's... not that good. Not compared to previous VLDC entries. Several levels are kaizo difficulty, which to me should be used sparingly in this kind of project. Many levels are also just plain too long, and with only one checkpoint and pin-point accuracy required to progress it leaves you playing long segments over and over to complete a level. I'm averaging about 30 deaths per level before completion, with a long way to go on the secret exits and more difficult levels.

Last criticism: game just does not really feel like a Super Mario World game. Or even a Mario game for that matter. Would it kill the level designers to give me a fireflower? All the levels are so cramped, there's no sense of the grandeur that made SMW magic. I miss that.

I know people in this thread submitted levels to this, so sorry but it's the truth. A shame because the game is very impressive from a technical perspective.
