>Why do tropes become tropes?
Mystical mythological ancient ruins are interesting and conceptually lends themselves to many interesting settings and character interactions, naturally they will be used even more if some property uses it effectively and inspires new derivative work. When a concept becomes well known it becomes a trope, having established settings and character interactions which are known to work and be interesting. When a trope is overused it becomes a cliché, no longer affecting the same response from audiences which have become too familiar with the concept and in turn grew tired of it.

Metaphorically speaking, ideas are like blades. Inspiration is like a rehoned blade, cutting effortlessly and becoming a regularly used tool. A trope needs force to cut, still effective but only in specific cases. A cliché is dulled to the point of practical uselessness and requires rehoning to become effective again.

Thankfully sex has a distinctly adult connotation. I get it, you're exhausted with your mental gymnastics and aren't paying attention any more. No worries, you can always go play with your toys while I play my games.
