I got an idea for a Serious Sam map I want to try making whenever I get the time to do so. The main idea would be that it's co-op focused with players selecting different "loadouts" when they spawn in before going to battle. I want it so that each loadout has a strength which covers weaknesses other loadouts have. But I'm not sure what weapon combinations would make the best loadouts. All I do know is that the sniper rifle loadout would only come with dual revolvers because the sniper is op in TSE. Anyone care to help throw some ideas around?

Nah, .wld files are pretty robust when it comes to large areas. This is nothing for the engine. And like that other anon said they just work, makes testing them a breeze because you can do it instantly within the editor.
The only thing that the engine really struggles with is recalculating lighting in the editor, but fortunately the increased processing power we have today actually makes that process instantaneous.

Yes, you can make them smaller or larger. On top of that you can enable a random stretch factor which I assume randomly changes their scale on spawn based on the random stretch factor value. I haven't messed with it so I'm not entirely sure, there are a lot of parameters that are named weird or don't actually do what they say.

>Has /vr/ made any good Serious Sam maps
Not really*, A Serious Case Of /vr/ will be the first.
As for custom map recommendations they're a bit spread out. But we've played a bunch of good ones for Serious Business Saturday.

>Lots of great maps from this mapper alone, this page also includes links to a bunch of serious sam mapping jams with even more maps. *The Dungeons Mapping Jam has a level created by me (Temple of Teopanzolco) but isn't really /vr/ related outside of the fact that I browse here.

>Celestial Keys and Kingdom of Tjurberg are amazing. Haven't played God of Frenzy yet. The Old Map Pack there has a variety of levels but many are very janky. Still worth playing at some point.

>The Tainted Sun is a great singular level that's really long. Haven't played any of this person's maps older than The Tainted Sun yet. We'll probably do that for Serious Business Saturday soon. Any maps newer than that one are part of various map jams and are really good too.

Finally, there's https://42amsterdam.net/samforum/downloads.php which hosts a ton of maps for both TFE and TSE. But browser beware, you're going to find a bunch of shitwads (or shitwlds in this case) here. Give the maps in the other links a try first before you start looking through 42amsterdam.

Wow, thanks! I'm still pretty new to brush work in general but this isn't my first rodeo. Serious Editor is not that bad once you learn the controls.

The tutorial is essentially done and ready for anyone new to Serious Editor. Here it is again for those interested: https://rentry.org/vy4qr
As for the project itself I hope to start that sometime at the end of the month or early February, near the end of the First Dates of /vr/ project that's happening now.

Have you tried mapping for other games besides doom?
