My experience with VC64 is a shameful one, mostly because I played it on easy, and the game punished me for that by not letting me go further than level 5, I believe it was the infamous Nitro level, which had a boss fight at the end against a vampire. I remember even on easy I struggled with the game's difficulty, and only to find out I have to play it at least on normal to see the real ending.
I generally don't play games on easy, and I actually enjoy the classicvanias for the challenge, but for some reason I felt intimidated by CV64 and ended up lowering the difficulty like a casual, and got my deserved punishment at the end.

So I'm planning to start the game over in Normal. I think I actually have an already started normal game file, but I'll just start over again, haven't played in long years anyway.

I agree with those who compliment the game by its atmosphere. It also has some of the wackiest enemies in the series. I mean, what's up with these guys? They even ride their bikes inside Drac's castle halls.
