So what's the true music experience to play with this bad boy?

Damage RNG. The variance can be bullshit as hell, especially when you're trying to speedrun the game. Examples:
>Shotgunners require 3 Pistol / Chaingun bullets on average, but can take as little as 2 and as many as 5 (theoretically 6, but that almost never happens)
>Chaingunners have 50% chance of dying to a perfect Shotgun shot
>Cacodemons have 50% chance of dying to two perfect SSG shots or rockets, Mancubi to 3, Barons Of Hell to 5
>there are extremely rare cases where RNG can let Hell Knights and Arch-Viles survive the intended number of 3 and 4 rockets respectively
>most enemy shots deal between 1 and 8 times a certain value - especially jarring with Revenant shots which can deal between 10 and 80, and also have a 50% chance of homing in on you (note that non-homing shots are not always preferrable - you need to react quickly and read which ones home and which don't to plan your movement)

What went wrong, aside from Romero embracing his celebrity status too much and therefor not being as involved in the production of the game as much as he should have been?
