probably because those are vertically-oriented games and you have a horizontal (4:3) monitor.

In that case, Giga Wing and Mars Matrix would both fit as they were made in 4:3. Mind you, Mars Matrix is a lot of fun but quite hard. It can be enjoyable to mess around with. Giga Wing is a great choice though since it's challenging without being too unforgiving (because you have a rechargeable shield to reflect bullets), and if you continue the difficulty goes down quite a bit to help you get your bearings again. Plus it has nice character art/sprites, which is always a plus.

I like Eco Fighters too, but it's not like most other shmups because of its 360-degree aiming. It's fun to play casually thanks to the great sprite work.
