Sometimes it can take a while and numerous playthroughs to acquire a more accurate representation.

On the surface level when you first play REmake it seems extraodinary, just like on the surface level when some people first play RE3 they're like "what the hell this is identical to RE2". Only playthrough after playthrough do you get to realize everything RE3 has to offer and its excellent pacing and replay value.
Just like once you get to know REmake, you'll realize that it's a complete slog and you're spending most of your playthrough backtracking through the same few empty hallways again and again more than feels necessary, like going back & forth to set corpses on fire, or the thing with the broken door handle, the entire shark basement area, or the cavern area with Lisa. Meanwhile, gunplay just isn't that exciting due to the long animation cycles (compared to the PSX titles) and the way enemies tend to show off more than trying to do harm.
