It's already a fun mission-based run-and-gun, but the story really grabs you

The Genesis version basically looks like an NES game, and the English localization is missing a lot of detail, so the 2016 remake is the best option to play through. There's also untranslated sequels on Saturn and PS1 (the latter is a Front Mission-style strategy game)
