What you liked from that game comes mostly from Fallout 1 and 2, turn based combat with skill progression has something special to it... try console turn based/hybrid class/strategy too, like Final Fantasy Tactics or Tactics Ogre, maybe you'll like it too.

I've enjoyed various types of console or PC "rpgs": Baldur's Gate, Fallout, Final Fantasy Tactics and FF8, Valkyrie Profile, Diablo I and II, Grandia. I tend to like micromanagement and freedom to move where I want to, though.Currently playing Earthbound for the first time, out of curiosity... kinda enjoying it but not hooked at all.

over 35... I can't get used to modern games that catter to huge masses, 1 or 2 exceptions.
I like 90's PC rpgs like Fallout and Baldur's Gate, that's what I've been playing related to this board, nowadays. I also enjoyed back in the day console RPGs, PSX ones and NES ones...: Final Fantasy Tactics, Gargoyles Quest 2, Faxanadu, Grandia... Mario Games, hell yeah, played countless hours 1 and 3.

I was on FFT thread the other and someone posted this:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/psp/937312-final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions/faqs/50422

read the section
XVI. VERSION DIFFERENCES

I'm definitely gonna give the PSP version a run-through soon, just patching the slowdown issue.

What I liked about FFT, is that despite many things being game breaking, if you're playing it for the first time and learn by yourself, it's really fun and epic to discover these powerful combinations.

When I played it for the first time on the PS1, the only info I had was the one given in the in-game tutorial, so I never worried about getting to certain classes, I just leveled up my chars according to what I needed on the way, I discovered classes as I levelled up my chars, and used to take notes...

I did get my ass kicked by Wiegraf, but I had about 4 slots, or more, of saved games so I went back and used some combo with autopotion and something else...

Second time playing was more of a grind for me.

BATTLE

Luckily I had another save file outside the castle and i could grind before fighting this asshole again.
Then the game gets easier like cowaduty once you get Orlandu.

Every friend I've ever had tells me that this battle was a piece of cake, and has likewise also told me about how min-maxed their character was and how they beat this guy no sweat.

I'm not an awful player, can someone just tell me about what a brutal time they had their first playthrough running into this part?

>You can never recruit him
Also, anybody who claims to have beaten him on their first try without having the guide or surfing the internet for cheap exploits is a fucking liar.
