Compare DKC to any of the earlier Mario games. DKC has a great flow to it, feels much faster and controls feel way better. Mario controls feel like you are always in some ice level and there is none of the flow. Plus, DKC music is great and among the best in SNES games.

When LA was made for the Gameboy, the game developers had much more freedom to operate than previously, because the very restrictive Nintendo managment did not the the gameboy as so important. So the devs were able to put in their own ideas much more.
