Not retro, but I just picked up Gradius V and am blown away by how amazing the game is, though I've only had it for a day and have yet to survive the level 2 boss rush (a boss rush at the second level? in a gradius game???). Top-notch industrial-style graphics, and already some killer boss-fights (seeing the Salamander boss show up made my inner-fanboy jump).

I popped in Gradius III and IV to see if I had improved in general skill - nope, still can't get get past the bubble stage without luck. Still love the game(s) though. Especially Gradius IV's jazzy soundtrack (look up "Demeter" for super jazz fun).

I got the Salamander Deluxe Pack a few months ago, and own Sexy Parodius, so I am pretty well-set on Konami shmups, which I have usually neglected for the Taito brand (my personal fave).

The pic is my wallpaper at the moment. Replaced the Guwange promo poster because, well, hot damn, look at it.
