Ayla's pro: she is the most well-adjusted member of the cast.
Every other character has personal baggage (except blank-slate Crono). Outside of that one time she hit Kino (which the little bitch deserved), of the whole cast, she is the very role model of the idealized young adult and underdog warrior. If you wrote Crono out of the game, she could be the main character that everyone looks up to.
Ayla's con: she barely has a reason to stick around.
Frog has this problem too. We can infer that they have a vested interest in Lavos after getting a taste of what it's capable of, but the game could've benefitted with an extra scene or two, plus you can take them to the End of Time as soon after they're permanently in the party and they don't bat an eye. Ayla is arguably worse because she barely understood the concept of time when you first meet her.

I actually assume they CAN'T through the blue gates or Epoch: there are predesignated time periods to go to but everything still slides forward in the same time scale, which is why you don't overlap earlier events in that time period. The only things that bend this rule are the bucket and red gate, which operate on different logic.

How are you supposed to learn from your mistakes, gain experience in life and be a better person overall if you virtually never experienced failure or never knew pain or the loss of someone at some point, or should I say, you fail, lose someone or know pain but then find a way to go back in time and use it to erase that from history so everything can always look perfect?
They're a bunch of selfish piece of shit lmao, imagine having the nerve to change history just so you can personally be happy, modifying everything around you, preventing the potential birth of some people or even not allowing people to exist because you changed the past which will impact the future.
