Eventually.

I would say pacing, The JRPGs that I like best tend to be short but very well paced. It moves the player along, the story is great without taking you away from playing too often without huge dumps of text, the wonderful music carries the mood, and there is no feeling of grind. I'm not a fan of Toriyama art, but it works well for the game. It still stands out as my favorite, and maybe that's why I did not like the added cutscenes in the Playstation version because they were unecessary, as they showed something happening in an anime cutscene for longer, then show it again with the original in-game character sprites, breaking the flow.

I kind of do too, but I accept that it was a special time, a very specific time with the perfect mix unique in that moment and I am just glad to have experienced it then. The music, the friends/people around, the environment/situation, etc. just cannot be replicated. I am glad my MMO journey began with PSO and RO, sure the mechanics are dated and all of which may be better now, but they were special beyond the game itself.

I agree. The End of Millennium was a very well paced and fun JRPG. Up there with my favorites like Chrono Trigger, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Ys 4, FFT, etc. I am amazed at the love it has gotten in this thread, as no one back then liked anything from Sega. Perhaps the common theme among the JRPGs I like are they are fast, easy, but very well paced and PS4 does count as that.

How is that new Planescape game?

Has a PC version been announced for Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana yet?

While Chrono Trigger is one of my most favorite of games, I can say I've enjoyed the Ys games, Final Fantasy Tactics, Valkyrie Profile, Panzer Dragoon Saga, etc. just about as much. I also love games in other genres too, for example shooting games like Thunderforce 4&5, Keio Yuugekitai, Cotton series, etc., as they provide me with a different yet highly enjoyable experience. Questions like most favorite game, song, movie, etc. is difficult for me since they're so different and I love so many things for varying reasons. I will say Chrono Trigger was worth being my first preorder and I am super glad I kept it all these years, as it found me at the right time.

Wish I played these, wasn't able to afford them then. I really should get around to giving them a try since they seem to be some of the finest experiences around. I like that Twisted Metal 2 and the Oddworld games seem to bring something dark and atmospheric to the table. The Legends games offer Roll Caskett which made me first realize (but not my first encounter) loli art is a thing.

Played only first of these on the 360. Holds up well to me. Very charming.

The hype was incredible for this game. I remember seeing commercials for it on Rurouni Kenshin. Everyone playing it at the same time on launch was quite the thing, calling each other talking about "the snowboard section" the game launch period was quite the event. However, I did feel it was not good immediately after beating the game after a week, so it was 80% the wonderful shared experience to me and 20% the game. These days, it's all Tifa or Aerith, I'd rather both plus Yuffie, as I want the harem ending.

Rented Dragon Warrior (Quest 1), and didn't like it or get it at the time. Nagged me that I never finished it. Once the pack-in launch title of SMW wore out its welcome, I didn't have much choice, but I chose FF2 (4), and my JRPG love began there. The characters are great, love how Cecil & Rosa were a couple, no shenanigans, and ended out a couple as it began. Wished Cecil could stay Dark Knight as that was cooler to me. Only played SNES version.

Did not play, didn't understand the attraction to the character. In the modern iterations, I guess after all the polygons, the main character is starting to look attractive.

Amazing game of my youth. Had to get all 3 for the system when they got released. Well designed and amazing theme. Box art is tits too!

Got for the DC, stayed up all night playing.

Chrono Trigger was my first ever preorder. Placed it with my local Electronics Boutique after seeing the few impressive images in a magazine, getting hyped it was billed as a Square and Enix collaboration dream team. Back then, I said Square can do no wrong (though I did feel FF6 was my first sign there was a chink in the armor, but all was right with Final Fantasy 2[4], Secret of Mana, and Chrono Trigger). I can't say I felt Chrono Trigger was a "classic" as I had no real notion of that at the time, but I was completely engaged in the game, saw it through to its many endings. Afterwards getting a Saturn and Playstation, I continued getting great games so they were all just great games to me. Only much later, and hearing others call it a classic, I cannot help but agree.

Back then, I thought Square RPGs were very popular. During the NES days, Nintendo Power had people send in their votes, and it was almost always #1 SMB3 and #2 Final Fantasy ... hell, my friends and I even completed their 4 white mage completion challenge on Final Fantasy. I swear Square games were always popular and sold around me. Only Sega got no love in my area of the USA.
