It's crazy that it's been over 20 years and these are still the closest 3D adaptations of 2D Sonic we've got from SEGA... and even then, while I'll admit they're good, they're not great, if we got 2D Sonic in 3D perfectly, it'd be better than all Genesis titles and the Dreamcast ones aswell, I just hope SEGA can pull it off one day, Sonic has so much potential in 3D, to be so much more...

I mean... don't get me wrong, both Adventure titles are excellent, and don't deserve the hate they often get, but look at a great level like the scrapped Windy Valley, we needed more of that!

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it so far, OP... still, just try to relax and enjoy the ride for what it is, talk to people in the soulful and small hubworlds, go for Sonic's campaign only and enjoy his levels, it controls well and has level design feel closer to what we had on Genesis, but in 3D, it was a good effort I think.

I mean, it did the whole Super Mario 64 thing, the Collect-A-Thon, and in a pseudo 3D environment where you could finally play with Sonic freely in 3 axis of movement... I'll agree that it doesn't even come close to Super Mario 64's quality, but it's not a bad video game, and for SEGA Saturn owners that were starved for some Sonic action, and who had just dealt with the blow of Sonic X-Treme's cancellation, this was probably the most optimal way for SEGA to fill that gap at the time, it was better than giving SEGA Saturn owners nothing, and I'm sure many kids who got a copy of Sonic 3D Blast, or Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island if you prefer, under their tree in 1996 for their brand new console, that didn't have Sonic before this, were pretty happy... I'm also sure many of them were not, and that's to be expected with the quality standards Sonic himself set in the past, but for the ones that enjoyed it, I'm sure it was a special and crucial port... still can't believe how Sonic just wasn't a top priority for SEGA in their new console launch, the character that helped them, at least for a moment, take over the US market from Nintendo... what were they thinking?

Sonic 2 Absolute really does seem like the definitive version, the inclusion of achievements isn't exactly to my liking, but they don't seem too bad for now, and it does look a lot better to 100% overall, from the videos I've watched the player's visibility improved significantly so the bombs aren't that much of an issue compared to before, also love how it's 16:9 which helps to see ahead of you and keep those 50 rings you need for the checkpoint. I'll look into downloading it, I'll probably have to use Wine to run it or something along those lines, but it should work fine.

I recall the 3rd one in Sonic 1 being quite tricky even in the original version, it was by far the most open one and for the style Sonic 1 went for, that made it more difficult, usually it's a lot of corridors and you'll be fine as long as you follow the trails of rings, but when it's open like that, while it's easy to know where your goal is, getting there is another story, trying to get anywhere really, since there's little to jump off of, and when you finally get there, the rotation makes you fall and you have to get back there all over again, easily the worst one in all of Sonic 1.

Amy thread is always the best thread, it's nice to see a fellow man of culture.
