No doubt most of reading this are aware of the current issue plaguing /vr/ as to whether the Dreamcast is retro or not. It has been ongoing for months, since back when the rules were changed to specifically exclude the Dreamcast. There have been many /q/ threads and no satisfactory conclusion has been reached with the mods. Please look over this letter, and if you see the logic in it join us with the campaign to convince moot that the /vr/ "Generation rule" does not dictate the status of whether something is "retro" or not and needs to be changed.

Let me lay some facts on you /vr/.

The following are the (North American) dates a few consoles you might be familiar with were discontinued, in chronological order:

>Dreamcast - March 30th, 2001
>N64 - November 30th, 2003
>PlayStation - December 31st, 2006

The following are the release dates of the last games officially released for each system, again in chronological order:

>NHL 2k2 (Dreamcast) - February 14th, 2002
>Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (N64) - August 20th, 2002
>FIFA 2005 (PlayStation) - October 12th, 2004

The Dreamcast was being manufactured from September 9th, 1999 to March 30th, 2001.

Let's take a look at how that breaks down when looking at what consoles were its peers.

The Dreamcast was available for:

>43% of the Nintendo 64's lifespan
>30% of the PlayStation's lifespan
>8% of the PlayStation 2's lifespan

These are the only consoles that were simultaneously available during the time which the Dreamcast was being manufactured.

The Dreamcast was discontinued months before the GameCube and Xbox were even released.

Also, here is a fun math tip for you guys: 1999 is less than or equal to 1999.

These are all hard facts and statistics that cannot be denied.

Which is more important when considering whether or not a system is retro /vr/? Age, or hardware power?

A system whose games are just as old as other retro games being disqualified because they look prettier?

Where is the logic in that?
