I have two Sony GDM-FW900 from long ago because I am poor and unable to afford newfangled displays so I had kept my legacy devices for my computer and console gaming (have an old XRGB2 from late 90's early 2000s to hook up via VGA). I am a retro game player by circumstance rather than choice. Plus, it may be a placebo effect, but it feels lagless to me and I enjoy the scalable nature of the display, to go from XRGB2 640x480 upscaled consoles, to 1920x1200 for my computer, and presets in geometry to display a not-retro console for "1080p".

I can only use one at a time because my cheap desk is rated for only the weight of one GDM-FW900. The first is now starting to show signs of failure. When turning it on, if there is too much white on screen it will constantly blink, unless it warms up with dark images on display for a couple minutes. Also the image is very sharp after it is powered on, but after about 10 minutes text gets blurry (not so bad that it cannot be read, but noticeably nowhere near as sharp). Can this be fixed and about how much would such an operation cost?

The second monitor is still in the closet but it has a 3 inch vertical scratch down the center of its front glass, it has better colors, sharpness, geometry, and the front bezel isn't scratched up. That scratch is annoying to look at. How specialized is the glass/coating for a replacement? Should I just have someone Frankenstein the two monitors into one superior one?

The cost of repairs may be high, I just want to know how much I should save up (may take months on my minimum wage) to get the operations done sometime by next tax return.

I know this is 4chan, and in before "kill yourself, faggot" as the solution, but I do enjoy CRT gaming. Thank you for any help.

I have a Sony FW900. Does anyone know how to force or simulate a 240p signal? I want to emulate it native resolutions.

So after thinking about it, I might just go ahead and shell out for a GDM-FW900 via Ebay. I was originally considering picking up a G-Sync Monitor, but was absolutely frustrated by the fact that I still need to purchase the appropriate GPU for it to even work, being limited to a single input, and how even with various new "gaming-grade" flat panel monitors coming out, you still have to accept some awful compromises due to the tech still not being there yet. Considering what the larger G-Sync monitors go for at retail, it probably makes sense to shell out the jewbay tax for the Sony monitors instead. There are some questions I have for anyone here with those displays-

How is the latency? I assume it's supposed to be non-existent given the tech, but I'm curious how true that is on, say, Windows 7 with V-Sync enabled in any game.

How well does GroovyMAME & GroovyMESS handle with it? I never tried those two out, but have heard great things about them.

How well does Dreamcast via VGA & Micomsoft boxes like the XRGB series handle on them?

Besides the usual sources, where in the hell can one find these? Craigslist often brings up nary a result on average.

Isn't there a 4:3 version of this monitor under a different name?

Isn't shipping out CRTs dangerous? Would it be worth me sending away for any of them online?

I'll put up another post later about different PC CRTs I'm curious about later.

I bought a NOS FW900 for $470 shipped. No regrets.
