>Lack of interest.
>The game being coded in such a way that makes it difficult to hack.

Take your pick. There's no shortage of people out there wanting to see the game expounded/improved on, the game is so short and once you know where to go and what to do, the challenge is lost. Never mind that you simply have to grind a bit to turn your MC into a god. Having to come up with arbitrary limitations to make each playthrough interesting is a must.

As it is, there's only some minor hacks that fix bugs and inconsistencies w/ equipment used by the hired guns, all authored by one guy scattered across several different GameFAQs posts. I collected and archived everything posted so they wouldn't be lost to the ether. If you're interested, here's a link to the archive:

made some small progress

Was able to clear out everything in Rat Shaman's lair with just Kitsune and Frogtongue. At this point my gun can only do 1 or 2 damage to the rats, and nothing to the Rat Shaman so my Jake mainly healed the others as they did most of the work. I had Kitsune cast Powerball and the occasional Summon Spirit until we won.

Went back to Dog and learned Powerball. This will now be Jake's main damage dealer, when leveled up it can wreck some enemies but the RNG is a bitch, sometimes you'll only get single digit damage which sucks. It's also a drain on MP unlike gunplay. I used the rest of my Karma points to raise Jake's MP to 80.

I was now ready to visit the Dark Blade mansion. I can also hire a decker and challenge Drake Tower if I want, but first I wanted to see if the new weapon shop had the Bullet-proof Vest or not. And it did... not. Should've known. I figure I might as well keep going as-is and see how far I can get.

Decided to return to the Arena and see if I could clear it now. And yes, it's possible thanks to Heal and Powerball even with sub-100 HP and shitty defense. Couple of close calls, though. Flush with cash, I bought out the Talisman shop so I could start learning more magic sooner, and to clear the Dark Blade event.

Kitsune's still alive, and I hired Steelflight and Norbert to back me up in the mansion. Didn't go into the catacombs yet, because now that Steelflight was on the payroll I wanted to see how far up Drake Tower I could get and I needed a decker to do it.

Pretty far up, as it turns out. If you can get Kitsune to fire off one Summon Spirit and follow up with Jake's powerball spam, you can clear each floor pretty quickly even through the beatings your party takes. Then the decker raids the computers for loot and access to the next floor, only occasionally having to leave in order to save and heal.

Still need to reach the top floor, but so far I'm liking my chances in Bremerton when I get there.
