1 because it has the least bullshit quarter sinks and doesn't hurt my hands with damage sponges. 2 would be my favorite if not for mission 6.

that's not what metal slug does. they just animate everything for no reason. look at how stupid this shit looks with the guns going up and down. if you like this you're probably a homo who likes being slapped in the face by dicks

It's literally true. The resolution of the screen sucks. It's physically incapable of displaying high quality spritework.

>Old Games that still look good today
here is a thing:

MOST OF OLD 2 D GAMES look great these days. 2D art don't age. Simple as that.
2D game can be shitty only if the art is not very good (the artist was a shitty one and used muddy colors or weird proportions).

All I have left are all Metal Slug sprites. Probably going to look for more from different games.

Anyone ever find a guide that covers some of the specifics of the Metal Slug series? (or any of the main four games).

Weapon damage would be a good example of what i am talking about. Can't seem to find much information about this. I have always wanted to know if all enemies take the same level of damage or if some have more/less armor towards bullets vs explosives (doubt this happens but sometimes i wonder) Also trying to find out if there is a "cap" on the amount of damage an enemy can take at once. It feels like if i toss 6 grenades very quickly at a vulnerable boss the damage that results is less than if i were to toss em a little slower. The amount of damage done with a direct shell from the slug cannon vs hitting an enemy with the explosion plume is another curiosity.

I feel like i saw a damage chart 8-10 years ago on this Metal Slug fan-site, it was the largest of them all at the time. Almost positive it was called something like metalslugarsenal.(jp, kr or ru). Can't seem to find the actual name or an archive.

Regardless, Metal Slug thread.

Alright so I have this RPI 1 that I threw retropie v3 on. I down...ahem ripped a large amount of ROMs from arcade machines I own and I believe they are for Mame 0.149? So, if I'm understanding correctly, I can only run roms that are the same version as the emulator I am using right?

On Windows I can play the roms with MameUI64 0.149 just fine. Now what I understand is I can't just move those roms to my Raspberry Pi cause it doesn't use that version of MAME.

So I looked into CLRMAMEPRO and found a guide that shows how to load a profile and rebuild the games. Which should change the rom version to the one I need if I use the dat file from the raspberry pi, right?

Just for shits, I tried rebuilding Metal Slug 2 both for Mame4All and FBA, neither worked. Just black screen with no response. I looked at the compatibility list and saw that FBA supported Metal Slug 4, so I tried rebuilding that, and same thing.

Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

Some tips:

When in the Metal Slug, or the Slug Flyer, when you're holding down, you can rapidfire your normal grenades. Most bosses crumble in seconds when you're throwing all your accumulated ordnance at once.

Master ejecting from the tank. When you jump out, you're temporarily invincible for a few frames. Use that to your advantage to keep the tank as long as possible.

On the first stage of the UFO fight, save your grenades for the mini UFO's. They're a much bigger threat than the larger ship.

One day, the last CRT will break down.
One day, the last C64 will have beeped its last chiptune.
One day, the last working controller for the NES will have lost its functionality.

How will you cope when that happens? The irreversible death of one of the crucial components for retro gaming will inevitably happen. Will we then crowdsource a retro gaming TV on kickstartr?
