Let's talk about the cgi and in-game models then. So you noticed that Rinoa and Ultimecia seem to share the same model? Well most female characters in the game seem to share the same body that probably is just scaled a bit differently to make then a bit taller or shorter. Rinoa and Ultimecia share the same face but so do almost all female characters in the game and to me it seems that the male characters that have more "feminine" look to them also seem to share the lower half of this face (including Zell). Speaking of these similar models there is one difference between Rinoa and Ultimecia, Ultimecia is taller than Rinoa however Quistis is about the same height as Ultimecia and also shares the same face. If we are going with similar faces and models Q=U is more likely than R=U.

If you are so aware of the differences between US and JP versions of FFVIII and Japanese language you should know that in Japanese language there are soft and hard versions of C's and that in the JP version Ultimecia does talk only using the hard C. Having Ultimecia talk in Mortal Kombatese is the closest way you can translate this way of talking.

Q=U has actually been a thing with some fans but hasn't been as up in your face everywhere as R=U has been. Just like you said the basic idea (and difference from R=U) is Quistis being jealous of Rinoa, killing her to receive her sorceress powers and the rest basically going the same way as it does with R=U. There was a site that had some more "evidence" towards Q=U but it isn't up anymore but some I what I remember being there was Shockwave Pulsar thing you mentioned, Quistis and Ultimecia sharing VERY SIMILAR face/model/stature and both having hairstyle with two long bangs and the raised part behind her head and there was something about Quistis' face facing right in the menus while the others face left which was supposed to signify Quistis looking towards the future while the others are obsessed with past.

Squall doesn't die at the end of disc 1 he died during the opening FMV from the wound he got from taking Seifer's gunblade to his head when he got distracted from the battle by daydreaming about random fields and women.

Think about it, the story takes on a dream-like quality that centers itself on Squall and everything Squall has ever wanted way before the end of disc 1:
-Squall is considered to be the best student at Balamb Garden
-He has a sexy teacher who is trying to get into his pants
-He passes the SeeD graduation exam instead of Seifer, a much more experienced and potentially superior rival.
-Fighting the sorceress with two people as a new seed when the entire organization of SeeD is supposed to train the few dozen who had already made that rank to kill her.
-Etc...

I'd just like to add something to this conversation. I frequently see people mock the idea that all of the children at the orphanage miraculously ended up coming back together again. It's constantly labeled as a plothole, yet it makes quite a lot of sense in retrospect. At the time of Edea's possession, Cid is in the process of establishing the three gardens out of the unused Cetra shelters. After Edea is possessed, Cid is left with an orphanage of children that he knows he cannot care for by himself, so he takes them along with him to his new project, the Gardens, until such time as he can find a more suitable home for them. Squall, Seifer and Zell are taken to Balamb with Cid. Zell is adopted to the Dincht Family, while Quistis is sent off to a new home, but after problems, Cid decides to bring her back to the Garden with the others, who have at this point forgotten her. The reason Squall and Seifer weren't adopted was probably because they were the two most unlikeable children. Squall, withdrawn and miserable, Seifer a bully. This does not go on to explain why exactly Selphie and Irvine were sent to different Gardens, though. But I think it goes someway to explain that part of the story.

Here is another through about one of the possible points and meanings of the orphanage scene:

One of themes of FFVIII is fate and "Liberi Fatali" which translates to children of fate. Now as we all know Squall and co. are those children of fate and how they grew up together, forgot about each other and later on found each other again. I think this might be to strengthen their bond with each other in order to make them trust each other more and to be able to have friendship and love for each other for certain scene later on where it apparently is needed. If they wouldn't had anything to do with each other before the event of the game they'd basically still be complete strangers for each other and not have any real reason to care about each other.

Acronyms you use when typing (especially on internets) and what you actually say to other people when talking to them in person are obviously two very different things.

For example it's true that I have never said "PSX" to anyone in person and have said Playstation instead but I have used the acronym on internets since the late 90s and will keep using it just to piss you "PSX refers to the DVD-player prototype that no-one ows" fags off.
Likewise I have never said "NES" or "SNES" to anyone in person (neither really work in my native language) and have used "regular Nintendo and Super Nintendo instead but use the acronyms NES and SNES all the time on internets.

>You guys have kept praising Earthbound as the best thing ever on internets for years
>Many e-celebs also made EarthBound reviews saying the exact same thing and even claiming EarthBound to be the most underrated game of all time
>Due to this many people got interested in the game and as a result wanted to buy a copy of the game
>this increased its price on online auction sites to match the demand for it that was caused by the increased interest in it
>now every goddamn day you guys bitch and whine about reseller scum artificially upping the price of EarthBound when it is your own actions that are responsible for the increase EarthBound's price

For fucks sake stop trying to make yourself a victim and just buy a flashcart or repro cart of EarthBound to play it on the actual system or in case you absolutely must own a "genuine" copy of EarthBound to sit on your shelf just suck it up and buy go buy one of those overpriced copies that are only overpriced because of all the praise you gave to the game on internets.

tl;dr: increased interest in game also increases it's price on online auction sites and collectors are a bigger problem than reseller scum as far as prices of retro games go
