/vr/ - Retro Games

Alright /vr/, forgive me, but I'm going to blaspheme. After playing through FF6 countless times from childhood through to the present, I went ahead and played through the entirety of FF6 T-Edition, and I am willing to say this is the definitive FF6 experience for someone who knows the original inside and out. It is simply sublime. The added challenge, the extra content, the balance changes... they all improve upon the game to such a degree I simply cannot see myself ever playing it again otherwise. I am, however, torn on whether to recommend it to people new to FF6 or FF in general. It definitely relies on you having at least cursory knowledge of the base game and the series in general, so if you don't have experience with those, some shit can throw you for a loop, but if you do, it is incredibly satisfying.

All I can say is, if you're a veteran to the series, this is a hell of a love letter. I put off playing it for far too long, thinking it was some overhyped romhack, but godDAMN did the person who worked on it have a handle on how to make the game better. The memories I've forged going through it are still fresh in my head, which is far more than I can say for the majority of games nowadays.

Finally got to the World of Ruin after dilly-dallying forever in the WoB farming AP from Intangirs and teaching everyone every spell available. Just finished getting Terra, Gau, Mog, and Shadow. Fucking monster-in-a-box in Darill's Tomb repeatedly tore my ass a new one, but I accidentally got the magic caster to Toad herself and turned the tides that way. Shit's fun.

Discuss what is possibly the greatest FFVI fan mod of all time.

I'm currently at the end of the WoB, right before the Floating Continent. I've been having a good time with it so far. I like how it subtly remixes certain aspects of the core gameplay, monsters, difficulty, and equipment without going overboard and making it unrecognizable. It looks to me like some characters got a nice buff, while others got heavily nerfed, unless I'm not using them right.

That said, is there anything I should take care of before I proceed to the FC? Is there anything missable?
