Yeah, but not many were low cost. Some of them weren't advertised well either, since there were so many worse joysticks out that had way more aggressive marketing which drowned out the quality ones.

>>10309410
They're decent, there were worse, like the 2600 stock joysticks.

>>10309420
I would just chalk it up to being unfamiliar with them due to lack of practice using them. To this day I still prefer d-pads, but in the arcades the controller for a lot of titles was with stick. That's why I got the joysticks to hopefully familiarize myself in utilizing the only option in arcades in those days. Especially since arcades were a pay-to-play model, time was limited in practicing. I would say my execution on joysticks are only 60% of my ability on d-pad.

The service centers weren't in a lot of locations. Definitely not near me. It was probably more cost effective to get a new one, and I chose not only to get another, I tried the NES Advantage instead of a simple replacement.

Some materials are very reflective, and I don't have any photography equipment. They are just quick pictures taken by a cheap Chinese phone.

I played a lot with/against friends and family. Utilized the SFC/FC one more than the MD one. The MD one feels a lot better than the SFC/FC one for buttons that are less "scratchy" and a lot more smooth. The stylings of the Capcom Power Stick Fighter is just like the ergonomic keyboards I loved in its time.

Well, skills like soldering, C&C, and 3D printing seems very useful to me and I'd love to learn to do them. With rising costs around, it may be most cost effective to DIY these days. Given the amazing stuff that has been made for enjoying video games these days has a lot which depend on such skills which is hard to come by now.

While I'm not the biggest fan of the SNK guy's art that gives everyone the Hasselhoff "come hither" face, it still looks alright on that Madcatz stick. While I do like WWE All Stars as well, it's a very fun game to play, but the artstyle is a bit too exaggerated for personal item presentation. Still amazing white carbon fiber look. I imagine a clear coat over that texture should enhance the appearance like a cool car paint.

>>10177645
There are a lot which could be adapted from one output to another like USB, but some adapters may introduce some lag. I don't exactly have any testing methodology for input lag, so it is all by feel for me.

The lumber shortage from supply chain issues and inflation has hit everyone hard. How much are Happ parts these days?

I mostly would need to open it up and see the parts to make the determination.

The Capcom one and Sega Arcade Power Stick 6B has nice clicky sticks when hitting the cardinal directions. Those two has a pretty decent stick but the buttons did not feel right. However, the NES Advantage is kinda mushy like an overgrown controller so it is just an approximation. They are still decent for what they were.

The one on the right also works on the original Famicom with its included cable.

C&L controls made a pretty good one called the "Championship Joystick". It is a bit light, but the stick and buttons feel like the arcade.

Since I main charge characters, that pause ruins it for me. Typically on all other formats, a player could charge while the announcer is declaring the round, and instantly after "fight" I should be able to unleash a charge attack, but due to that pause, it reduces my options at that moment of every round. That load time ruins the balance for me.

Yooo, my friend also favored grappler characters and prefers US styled joysticks. Is that the reason why, 'cus I was a pad player and preferred charge type. So I guess that leaves the square gates for people who like to do Raging Storm pretzels and Shoryus. I just can't use grapple characters, they work so hard, and suffer for so long for a slim chance, too masochistic for me.

Thanks for the great idea! Budget conscious too! I will give that a try when I next have off of work to progress the builds along! THANKS!

I like the MAS sticks. The one I have is for Saturn, but the board inside has pads for Playstation and SNES wires. The MAS stick I got has turbo switches too. If I ever find someone who can solder, I wondered if some junk 3rd party controller would be worth sacrificing to test if the stick can be made to function on those systems too. If anything, I've seen some pretty amazing custom made arcade sticks people have made.

For cheap, people were throwing away Capcom Power Fighter sticks back in the day. It has turbo for the buttons, and the stick is sort of like a Japanese-styled stick for fast shaking.

I love them, that is how I get to use them on more modern consoles like the 360 and PS3. As for a white controller, I have the two Playstation ones. If you mean the newer, Saturn controllers, I had one, but I didn't like how the L&R clacked instead of clicked, so I used it when I was intensively playing Street Fighter Alpha 2, and after years of intense play that one broke causing me to get a few more Saturn controllers just in case.

>>4538003
I do like SNES controllers too, but more buttons allow for more functionality so the Saturn pad is still my answer. When emulating, sometimes the additional buttons are needed depending on the game. Or using the original controller sometimes works as well.

Just open up the controller as it only requires a Phillips (plus shaped) screw driver. Place the screws aside in a small container.

When you split apart the top and bottom of the controller, note that the L&R buttons may be held in by pins (later revisions do not) where they rotate from.

Separate the board and the rubber/silicone membranes from the other parts. The board and rubber/silicone membranes (like the start/select buttons) you'll want to just use isopropyl alcohol (highest concentration you can buy, Walmart has 97%) with some cotton swabs/q-tips to clean. Make sure to clean the contact points and dry with the other end. Remove any stray strands of cotton that may have fallen off.

All the other parts: L&R, metal rods, shell, ABXY buttons, D-pad ... can all be cleaned with soapy water (I use 20% Pine-sol + 80% water). A cheap new toothbrush can get in those areas between the embossed lettering, and be sure to clean the grooves where the pieces meet each other as that is where filth can build up.

Do not forget to clean the outside of the wire. Using a soapy paper towel, just twist as you go along the length of the cord.

For the plug, compressed air can do. I use the same isopropyl alcohol treatment to clean, but compressed air may be good enough.

Make sure it is all dry. Fling/flick the shells, use towels, use compressed air, then wait a while. Then you can put it together.

I do this to all my controllers. Relaxing. It is just to maintain a nice feeling. Also required for any used controller you get in, because you have no idea what the previous kids touched before going to town with those controllers.

Sounds like you want the cross styled SNES-like D-pad. So why not those Hori Fighting Commanders >>4242463 and >>4242590 posted as they seem to be the closest to that personal ideal?

While I prefer Sega Saturn controllers, the SNES controllers were part of the feel of a lot of games I remember too. There are so many good replica SNES controllers, but so few good replica Sega Saturn controllers.

I can't think of too many SNES games that used a 6 face button layout. There's the Street Fighter games and Justice League (I think Killer Instinct too, but I do not have that one). Most of the fighting games were 4-button on the SNES that I played.
