A big part of the appeal in the day was the arcade conversions, which were outstanding. Capcom and Sega games like Virtua Fighter, the Street Fighter series, Virtua Cop, Sega Rally etc were all amazing to play at home.
Now of course it doesn't really matter since you can and should just emulate the arcade versions instead.
Even so, Saturn had some really great exclusives and/or unique versions of home games too. Shining Force III, Grandia, Panzer Dragoon 1, 2 and Saga, even Resident Evil while mostly inferior to the PS1 version has some cool shit that fans would want to check out like Battle Mode.
The reasons to own one has diminished since arcade emulation/ports are so much better now, but there's still lots of cool games.

Don't grind, the game is pretty easy as it is.
Special moves are tied to weapon types, EG Sword, Blade, Knife and Rapier all have different special moves to learn. I personally like to pick a specialty and stick with it.
An exception to this is ranged weapons for the class, EG spears for cavaliers, hand axes/tomahawks for warriors and knives for heroes. Sometimes i like to have those as 'sub' weapons for ranged attacks, but that's more a fun thing and not really required.
My understanding is it's best to 'promote' your characters around level 15, but again the game isn't overly difficult so no need to power game it.
Don't murder the people of Quonos, try to save them all.
Have fun man, the games are excellent and you'll enjoy them!

Shining Force III trilogy can be played in english with a fan-translation of the last two chapters, and is one of my favourite series of all time. It's an SRPG with some really fun set battles and great story.

Die Hard Arcade is a fun brawler, especially with a friend to co-op it.

I'd reccommend all the AM2/Model 2 arcade ports like VF, Daytona, Sega Rally, Virtua Cop etc, but if you can play the arcade versions, they are superior anyway (or more recent ports like VF2 on Xbox 360/PS3).

Guardian Heroes is an amazing action/scrolling fighter with levelling elements/branching story. Beautiful graphics and music too (also available on Xbox 360).

Try out Burning Rangers too, a really fun platformer game as a futuristic firefighter with amazing graphics by Sonic Team.

Yes, the first game had some changes made to the original storyline to make it more self-contained for a western release. They pretty much knew that there was no chance of the second and third games being released outside of Japan at that point so they gave part 1 a much more satisfying ending and removed a cliff-hanger.

Saturn emulation is good enough to play these games without a flaw. I used SSF many years ago and played all three translated with pretty much no major issues. Give it a shot! I hope you enjoy them, I'm playing through the entire trilogy right now in fact. Just finished the patched Scenario 1 and about to start Scenario 2 in english.

I started surfing the internet for information relating to games in the mid 90's. Many gaming websites have come and gone, with a few made years ago surpassing anything being made today.

http://www.wolfgangarchive.com/ Is a fantastic example. Battle backgrounds, sprite work, music, full photo strategies etc for the Lunar, Phantasy Star, Shining series and much more. You won't find this site anymore in a typical Google search for those games.

I also recall a great Castlevania website by kcscheldon years ago that had a great Daggerfall section as well.

How 'bout it /vr? What websites do you remember being incredible for our early game wants? If any are still around, feel free to share.
