Audio on PC is a whole different beast, but interesting to get into. It's a lot more free-form (just fill a buffer with samples). You can make it do whatever you want. Not that I have much experience with it myself. Pic related is about the extent of that-- a crappy emulator I made years ago. The audio emulation isn't much (just a few hundred lines of code), but I learned a lot from doing it.
