sa2 has better sonic gameplay and less auto pilot hold forward to win content. some people have said that sa1 was just a dreamcast tech demo, and they're probably not wrong.

one thing sa1 did right though was basing the whole game around sonic stages. because of that they could cram in other character playstyles into the already fun stages.
